The Ensō philosophy

Being present in the moment

What does Ensō mean?

The ensō is a circular symbol associated with Zen calligraphy and Japanese aesthetic culture. Creating an ensō with a single, uninterrupted brushstroke is an expression of nowness that requires emptying one’s mind of distractions and fully committing to the creative flow.

ARRI Ensō lenses embody this philosophy by giving image-makers the confidence to put aside technical concerns and focus on capturing the moment.

What is creative flow?

Creative flow is what Ensō lenses give to their users. It is the state of mind required to create an ensō symbol in Zen calligraphy and it is also what happens on set when all of the technology is functioning correctly and flexibly, in service to the creativity of image makers.

Producing beautiful, natural images in all lighting conditions and performing reliably in all shooting environments, Ensō lenses allow users to forget about technical worries and produce their best work by going with the creative flow.
